Our interview in Eleftherotypia

It is a great feeling, when you are asked to talk about your work and the principles behind it.

We are very excited about our interview in a Greek daily newspaper regarding exactly those principles which guided us to publish our white paper on  Policy and Crisis Communications for the Hospitality Sector for free. We were asked time and again: Why give it away for free? Nikos Moumouris of Eleftherotypia had exactly the same question and he gave us an excellent opportunity to share our thinking with the world

You will remember our free white paper on Policy and Crisis Communications for the Hospitality Sector. It presents advice and ideas about how to plan hotel policy and how to communicate both with travellers and businesses. It is a document that helps advance hoteliers’ thinking regarding the crisis, how it affects the hospitality sector and how they can take control and alter the situation.

Nikos wanted to know our thinking behind distributing the white paper for free. And it’s quite simple really. It is a deeply held belief of ours that without sharing knowledge, getting that knowledge challenged and learning new things, progress would be impossible.

Here’s what Sofia had to say on the matter:

Tourism professionals are tired of empty promises from services that keep their secrets locked. It is important for those who want to progress to see that a company wants to offer things and is prepared to take criticism. Otherwise, why would our clients trust us? If our service was “one size fits all ‘, we might hesitate to give our material for free. Instead, we want to encourage discussions on the principles and philosophy of our work by the community; it’s the only way for the services we provide to be effective.

It sounds a bit like ‘open – source’ consulting, said Nikos (and we love the phrase).

Here’s what Manolis had to day on that:

“The closed border” approach in the era of the Internet and social media is an equally outdated practice as it is ineffective for the product or service that your customers have entrusted you with. Any other practice (than this ‘open source’ approach) would result in entrenched, incomplete and poor ideas.

And there you have it.

If you can read Greek (or if you trust online translation services) you can read the complete interview here.
